Changing the Portal’s Text (Content & Text)
The Content & Text tab holds the words your customers read in the portal: the browser tab title, the Dashboard welcome, the tagline on the login page and an announcement bar. On a multilingual site it is also where you translate these texts and the Dashboard’s Help and Custom content boxes, one language at a time.
Edit your texts#
- Go to WooCommerce > Account Portal > Content & Text.
- Make sure the Original language button at the top is selected (it is when the page opens).
- Change the fields you want (see the table below).
- Click Save Settings.

The fields#
| Field | Default | Where customers see it |
|---|---|---|
| Portal Page Title | My Account | The browser tab title of account pages, followed by your site name (for example “My Account – Your Store”). Empty uses the WordPress page title. |
| Welcome Title | Welcome back, {{first_name}}! | The heading at the top of the Dashboard. |
| Welcome Message | Manage your orders, downloads and account details from this portal. | The text under the welcome heading. A small editor, so links and bold text work. |
| Auth Page Tagline | Your account, your way. | The subtitle on the brand panel of the login and register page. |
| Announcement | (empty) | A bar at the top of every account page for logged-in customers. Empty means no bar. |
Merge tags#
The Welcome Title, Welcome Message and Announcement accept these tags, replaced with the customer’s details:
| Tag | Becomes |
|---|---|
{{first_name}} | The customer’s first name (their display name when no first name is set) |
{{last_name}} | The customer’s last name |
{{display_name}} | The customer’s display name |
The same tags work in the Dashboard’s Help & contact title and message, and in the Custom content title and content.
Announcement options#
Under the Announcement text:
- Link (optional): makes the whole bar a link, with an arrow at the end.
- Colour: Brand colour (default), Calm (soft brand tint), Green or Amber.
- Customers can close it (it comes back when you change the text): on by default. Shows a close button. The “closed” choice is remembered in the customer’s browser and is tied to the text and the link, so a new text or a new link shows the bar again to everyone.

Good to know#
- The welcome text appears in the Dashboard’s Welcome widget (in the profile card or as a simple heading, depending on the Dashboard tab). If you switch that widget off on the Dashboard tab, the welcome text is not shown.
- Empty Welcome Title shows “Welcome back, {first name}!” in the customer’s language.
- Empty Auth Page Tagline does not remove the tagline: “Your account, your way.” is shown instead.
- The tagline is not shown on phones (768px wide or narrower), where the login page drops the brand panel and shows the form only.
- The default texts follow the site language. While a text is still exactly the plugin’s English default, a site in another language shows the plugin’s built-in translation of it. Once you change a text, it is shown as you typed it.
Help & contact and Custom content#
The Dashboard’s Help & contact and Custom content boxes are filled in on WooCommerce > Account Portal > Dashboard, not here. Their texts (title, message, link text, content) appear on this tab only in the language panels, so you can translate them with the rest of your texts.
Translate the texts (multilingual sites)#
When WPML or Polylang is active with at least one language besides the default, a button for each language appears next to Original. Click a language to see its fields: the five texts above, the five Dashboard texts (Dashboard: Help title, Dashboard: Help message, Dashboard: Help link text, Dashboard: Custom content title, Dashboard: Custom content) and the Navigation Menu Labels of your switched-on menu items.
- Leave a field empty to show the original text in that language.
- Under each field, the original is shown with Copy (to paste into a translation tool) and Use as start (puts the original into the field to edit).
- Fill in built-in translations fills the empty fields that still hold the plugin’s default texts.
- One Save Settings saves the original and every language together.
The announcement bar is switched on and off by the original text only: if the Original Announcement is empty, there is no bar in any language, even if a translation is filled in.
The full workflow is in Translating Your Custom Text.
