A Tour of the Settings Tabs

5 min readUpdated October 31, 2026

All of WC Account Portal’s settings live on one page, WooCommerce > Account Portal, split into twelve tabs. This tour tells you what each tab is for, so you know where to look before you dive into the detailed docs.

How saving works#

  • Each tab has its own Save Settings button at the bottom. Saving a tab only changes the settings on that tab; the other tabs keep their values.
  • Unsaved changes appears next to the button when you have edited something on the tab and not saved it yet.
  • Integrations, Export / Import, License and About have no Save Settings button. Export / Import and License have their own buttons.
  • The page needs the manage_woocommerce capability (administrators and Shop Managers).

General#

The General tab holds settings that change how the portal behaves rather than how it looks:

  • Email-Only Login: renames the login field label to “Email address”. Customers can still sign in with a username; to stop new customers needing one, turn on automatic usernames in WooCommerce > Settings > Accounts & Privacy. On by default.
  • Add to home screen: lets customers install the account page on their phone or computer like an app, with an App name and a Name under the icon.
  • Orders & empty pages: order progress steps, the Buy again button, search and status filter on the Orders page, shipment tracking display (when Advanced Shipment Tracking is active) and friendlier empty pages.
  • Theme Styles: stop the theme’s CSS and JavaScript from loading on the account pages.
  • Account Nav Widget: an account drawer for the rest of your site, opened by the [wap_account_nav] shortcode or any element with the wap-account-trigger class, plus the option to let customers upload a profile photo.
  • Display Name: set the display name to the first name on registration and login.
  • Excluded Pages: pages where the portal design, its styles and scripts and the header account drawer should not load, one per line.
  • Downloads Table (Mobile) and Orders Table (Mobile): Scrollable, Card layout, Minimal or Compact on screens 768px wide or narrower.

Content & Text and Translations#

Content & Text holds the texts you write yourself. With WPML or Polylang, language buttons at the top switch between the original and each language without reloading. Translations shows the page texts again for each language and adds the interface strings (the “Back to [site]” link, the Sign out label and the mode switch labels) and the menu labels. See Changing the Portal’s Text (Content & Text) and Translating Your Custom Text.

Dashboard#

A visual copy of the customer Dashboard. Drag widgets by their handle, resize them by their right edge or with the width buttons, and switch them on or off. Click a widget to open its settings below the layout. Layout for lets you give a role (for example wholesale customers) its own layout.

Appearance#

Laid out as eight numbered steps: Theme style, Brand colours, Fine-tune colours (including the AI brand theme), Logo & login page, Account menu, Light / dark mode, Buttons and Advanced CSS.

Menu Items is a table of the account menu with the columns On, Label, Icon (Material Symbol), URL (custom/page items), Type and Who sees it. Below it you find Add Custom URL Item, Restore Defaults (saves the default menu at once, your custom pages are kept) and one-click Extra pages for supported plugins. Pages is where you create your own account pages; each new page is added to the menu switched off, ready for you to turn on.

CAPTCHA / Spam#

Choose a Provider: Nahnu Login Shield, None, hCaptcha, reCAPTCHA v2 (checkbox), reCAPTCHA v3 (invisible / score) or Cloudflare Turnstile. Enter your keys and pick the forms under Apply to. The Secret Key is never shown again after saving.
