The Customer Dashboard

5 min readUpdated October 31, 2026

The Dashboard is the first page customers see after they sign in at /my-account/. WC Account Portal replaces WooCommerce’s plain “Hello … (not …? Log out)” text with a grid of widgets you arrange yourself: a welcome or profile card, summary numbers, shortcuts, recent orders and more.

Set up the Dashboard#

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Account Portal > Dashboard.
  2. Under Dashboard layout, drag a widget by its handle to move it.
  3. Use the switch on each widget (tooltip Show on the Dashboard) to show or hide it. Hidden widgets are marked Hidden.
  4. Set a width with the 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 and Full buttons, or drag the widget’s right edge.
  5. Click a widget (or its Settings button) to open its settings below the layout.
  6. Click Save Settings.

With the keyboard, focus a widget’s handle and use the arrow keys to move it.

The widgets#

WidgetWhat it showsOn by default
WelcomeThe welcome title and message, as a profile card or plain textYes
Summary boxesA number for orders, downloads, subscriptions, memberships and other pluginsYes
Next paymentThe next subscription renewal (WooCommerce Subscriptions)Yes (only customers with an active subscription see it)
Getting startedA short checklist for new customersNo
ShortcutsA tile for every page in the menuNo
Recent ordersThe latest orders with status and totalYes
Buy againProducts from earlier orders with Add to cartNo
Help & contactA message with email, phone and help page buttonsNo
Custom contentYour own title and text (HTML and shortcodes)No

Each widget is covered in Dashboard Widgets and Tiles and Adding Help and Custom Content to the Dashboard.

A widget that has nothing to show (for example Next payment for a customer without a subscription, or Recent orders when Orders is not in the menu) leaves no empty space: it is simply skipped.

The Welcome widget#

Click Welcome to choose its style:

  • Profile card: the customer’s photo or initial, the welcome title and message, “Customer since” (the month and year the account was created), their active memberships and a link to their account details.
  • Simple text: just the welcome title and message.

For the profile card you can also set:

OptionWhat it doesDefault
Show the photoShows the customer’s photo, or their initial in a circle when they have none. Off: only the text, “Customer since” and memberships. On
Show when memberships endAdds the end or renewal date, for example “Gold Club, until May 3, 2027” (SureMembers, WooCommerce Memberships, Paid Memberships Pro, YITH Membership, Paid Member Subscriptions, Restrict Content Pro, WishList Member and MemberDash). On

The profile card shows at most three membership names. The account details link uses the label of your Account Information menu item and only appears while that item is in the menu.

The welcome title and message themselves are edited on WooCommerce > Account Portal > Content & Text (Welcome Title and Welcome Message). The title and the message support {{first_name}}, {{last_name}} and {{display_name}}; the default is “Welcome back, {{first_name}}!”. When a customer has no first name, {{first_name}} shows their display name.

Tip

Photos only appear when customers can upload one. See Profile Photos and Display Names.

Widths and how they stack#

The Dashboard is a 12-column grid. Widgets side by side line up when their widths add up to a full row (for example 1/2 + 1/2, or 2/3 + 1/3).

The grid reacts to the width of the content area, not just the screen:

  • Content area narrower than 900px: 1/3 widgets become half width and 2/3 widgets become full width.
  • Narrower than 560px (phones, or a slim content area): every widget is full width.

So a layout that looks right on a computer always stacks cleanly on a phone, whichever menu style you use.

A different Dashboard for some customers#

You can give a role or customer group its own layout, for example a Dashboard for wholesale customers without Buy again but with Help & contact at the top.

  1. On the Dashboard tab, pick a role in Layout for. The default is Everyone (main layout).
  2. Turn on Give [role] their own layout.
  3. Arrange the widgets and click Save Settings.

Roles with their own layout are marked with a check mark (✓) in the list. Turn the switch off again to send that role back to the main layout.

Note

Only the order, on/off state and width of the widgets are per layout. The widget settings (number of orders, help texts, summary boxes and so on) are shared by all layouts.

When a customer belongs to more than one audience, they get the most specific layout that exists: a plugin’s customer group first, then a role other than Customer or Subscriber (a wholesale role, say), then All wholesale customers / Retail customers, then Customer or Subscriber. The list of audiences is the same one used for menu items; see Showing Menu Items to Certain Customers Only.

WooCommerce’s own Dashboard text#

Below the layout, Remove WooCommerce’s own Dashboard text (“Hello … (not …? Log out)” and the links to orders and addresses) is on by default. Turn it off if you want WooCommerce’s text to show under the widgets as well.

Starting over#

Reset the layout (below the canvas) puts every widget back in its default order, at full width, with the default widgets switched on. Nothing changes until you click Save Settings.

For developers#

Other plugins can add their own widgets with the wap_dashboard_widgets filter (id => title) and print them with the wap_dashboard_widget_{id} action. Added widgets appear on the Dashboard tab marked “Added by another plugin.” and start switched off. See Dashboard Widgets and Tiles for an example.
